Four teams were chosen by our contestants in Week 5, with less of a consensus than in prior rounds. The most popular pick was the Milan Indians, who had the largest margin of victory in their 49-6 declawing of the Greenwood Christian Cougars. Nearly as many players chose the 3A #5 Hanover Central Wildcats, who defeated the Kankakee Valley Kougars by 40 points. None of our teams held their opponents scoreless this week, the first time that has happened this season. Three teams suffered losses in this round (Seymour, 2A #8 Evansville Mater Dei, and 6A #6 Fishers). Hanover Central and 4A #7 Columbia City remain our only undefeated teams.

After the middle game of the season, EHS_HOOPS remains our leader with 263 points. hhsdawg and ysuindy are five points back in a tie for second with 258. Rob Deweese dropped two spots to fourth place with 255 points, and Mr. B.A. completes our top five with 246.

INDIANAPOLIS — An Indianapolis mother says her son was punched in the mouth twice by his high school gym teacher.

Don Carlisle is also the head varsity coach of the state champion Ben Davis High School boys basketball team.

M.S.D. of Wayne Township says that Carlisle was placed on leave following a report of an assault by the physical education teacher on a 15-year-old 11th grade student on Sept. 6. The police report says the incident happened about 1:30 p.m., but the incident was not reported until the next day at about noon.

Our contestants spread their picks over four teams in Week 4, with the majority choosing 1A #8 Sheridan. The Blackhawks proved worthy of the confidence placed in them as they muzzled the Clinton Central Bulldogs in a 57-point shutout win. Three of our teams (Sheridan, Rochester, and Milan) scored 50 or more points in this round, and three (Sheridan, Rochester, and 3A #6 Hanover Central) held their opponents scoreless. Four of our teams suffered losses (6A #6 Fishers, 2A #5 Evansville Mater Dei, Seymour, and 3A #17 Monrovia), leaving only 4A #8 Columbia City and 3A #6 Hanover Central among the ranks of the undefeated.

For the first time this season, we do not have a tie at the top of our leaderboard! EHS_HOOPS took sole possession of first place in Week 4 with 220 points. FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – With months to go before the high school basketball season tips off, Byron Pickens announced he has step down as head coach at Wayne High School.

Pickens announced on social media on Friday that he and his family are moving to Indianapolis.

Four different teams were picked by our contestants in Week 3, with 4A #8 Columbia City being the clear favorite. The Eagles produced the largest margin of victory in this round in their 49-point shutout of the Bellmont Braves. Three of our teams (Columbia City, 3A #6 Hanover Central, and Rochester) notched wins of more than 40 points, and three (Columbia City, Rochester, and 1A #8 Sheridan) held their opponents scoreless. Two of our teams (Milan and 2A #5 Evansville Mater Dei) suffered losses this week, both to ranked 3A teams. Our four undefeated teams (Columbia City, 6A #6 Fishers, 3A #6 Hanover Central, and 3A #17 Monrovia) continued their winning ways to move to 3-0.

Our leaders look much the same as last week, with EHS_HOOPS and Mr. B.A. continuing to be tied for first place with 163 points. Four players are tied for third with 158 each: hhsdawg, Quad Runner, Rob Deweese, and ysuindy. Six games remain for our contestants to separate themselves from the pack!

Looking for some help for a fellow researcher. John Ockomon is looking for a list of how many basketball entries (schools) by year for IHSAA State Tournament.

He already has 1911 through 1959 numbers, but is looking for 1960 to present. I am certain I have seen a list like this somewhere myself, but I can't find it anywhere, and my internet searches are coming up empty. Anyone?

If you have not checked out this documentary yet, I'm recommending you do. Pretty much everything that has ever been wrong in high school athletics is wrapped-up in this nightmare of a story. The guy behind Bishop Sycamore is a total dirtbag, and this documentary does a great job in exposing that.

My wife asked me about half-way through why nobody questioned what this school was doing halfway through the season, and I had a hard time answering.

But then I thought of La Lamure Academy in Indiana, and while at least that is a real school, it occurred to me that very few question what they do because they are not an IHSAA member. I'm guessing that is how Bishop Sycamore was able to fly under the radar.

However, that's what I still fail to grasp about this story. The only way they get away with this is to maintain a low profile. Yet they chose to play in the spotlight vs. IMG on ESPN. Win or lose they were going to draw attention to themselves. This whole thing was destined to be a short run based on leaving a trail of unpaid hotel bills, not having any classes, and playing kids that had already used up all high school eligibility. What was the end game supposed to be here? It would've been a very entertain story if it had not been true. Okay, still pretty entertaining.
