Hickory Husker Pigskin Pick'em - Week 4 Results

Our contestants spread their picks over four teams in Week 4, with the majority choosing 1A #8 Sheridan. The Blackhawks proved worthy of the confidence placed in them as they muzzled the Clinton Central Bulldogs in a 57-point shutout win. Help with Number of IHSAA Tourney Entries by year

Looking for some help for a fellow researcher. John Ockomon is looking for a list of how many basketball entries (schools) by year for IHSAA State Tournament.

OT: HBO Documentary on Bishop Sycamore Fake 'Prep school'

bs-high-ka-1920.jpg

If you have not checked out this documentary yet, I'm recommending you do. Pretty much everything that has ever been wrong in high school athletics is wrapped-up in this nightmare of a story. The guy behind Bishop Sycamore is a total dirtbag, and this documentary does a great job in exposing that.

My wife asked me about half-way through why nobody questioned what this school was doing halfway through the season, and I had a hard time answering.

But then I thought of La Lamure Academy in Indiana, and while at least that is a real school, it occurred to me that very few question what they do because they are not an IHSAA member. I'm guessing that is how Bishop Sycamore was able to fly under the radar.

However, that's what I still fail to grasp about this story. The only way they get away with this is to maintain a low profile. Yet they chose to play in the spotlight vs. IMG on ESPN. Win or lose they were going to draw attention to themselves. This whole thing was destined to be a short run based on leaving a trail of unpaid hotel bills, not having any classes, and playing kids that had already used up all high school eligibility. What was the end game supposed to be here? It would've been a very entertain story if it had not been true. Okay, still pretty entertaining.

On the Court Eternal: Richie Adderly

5d786dcb05d64.image.jpg

[The story of Richie Adderley had more than its share of sad moments, and it came to an end Friday. The former Indiana State point guard — and more recently the head girls basketball coach at Terre Haute South High School — died in a hospital in Nassau, the Bahamas.]

Bill Hodges: Where is Larry Bird’s Ex-Basketball Coach Now?

screenshot-www.youtube.com-2023.08.18-11_52_58-1.jpg

[HBO’s ‘Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty‘ takes viewers back to the 1980s when the NBA and basketball were approaching the peak of their popularity. The series follows the LA Lakers as they establish an era of dominance in the NBA under owner Jerry Buss. However, the story of the LA Lakers’ bitter rivals, the Boston Celtics, and the latter’s star player Larry Bird is also explored in great detail. The second season showcases how coach Bill Hodges convinced Bird to return to college basketball, leading to him becoming a basketball legend. ]

Hickory Husker Pigskin Pick'em - Week 2 Results

To a very great degree, our contestants were of one mind in Week 2. Out of 13 players, 12 of them picked 3A #12 Monrovia in this round, easily the most to pick the same team in any week in the 13 years I have been the administrator of this contest. The Bulldogs proved our contestants' confidence in them to be well founded as they clipped the wings of the Phalen Academy Falcons in a 65-point shutout victory, the largest winning margin for the week by 25 points. Three of our teams - Milan, 2A #11 Rochester, and 2A #1 Evansville Mater Dei - suffered losses in Week 2. Four of our nine teams remain undefeated: 4A #8 Columbia City, 6A #8 Fishers, 3A #7 Hanover Central, and Monrovia.

With nearly all of our contestants picking the same team, there was no movement at the top of our leaderboard this week. EHS_HOOPS and Mr. B.A. remain tied for the lead with 114 points. A five-way tie exists for third between Ed Stachulak, hhsdawg, Quad Runner, Rob Deweese, and ysuindy, each with 109 points.

Here are the games for Week 2 with scores, point margins, and the number of players who picked each one:

Monrovia 65, Phalen Academy 0 (65 points, 12 players)
Fishers 40, Pike 0 (40 points, no players)
Seymour 42, Jeffersonville 7 (35 points, 1 player)
Columbia City 42, Plymouth 14 (28 points, no players)
Sheridan 35, North Miami 12 (23 points, no players)
Hanover Central 24, Hammond Morton 14 (10 points, no players)
Batesville 21, Milan 0 (-21 points, no players)
Tippecanoe Valley 39, Rochester 8 (-31 points, no players)

Recipients of Two IHSAA Foundation Scholarships Announced

Recipients of Two IHSAA Foundation Scholarships Announced

The IHSAA Foundation and its Board of Directors are pleased to announce the recipients for the Sparks Foundation Scholarships and the David Cranfill Truehearted Teammate Award. This is the third year the IHSAA Foundation will award the Sparks Foundation Scholarship to a pair of student-athletes and the second year in which the David Cranfill True Hearted Teammate Award will be presented.

The IHSAA Foundation is proud to announce that James Cannon of Evansville Christian High School and Chenyze DeBerry of Gary West Side Leadership Academy have been selected as recipients of the 2023 Sparks Foundation Scholarships.

The Sparks Foundation Scholarships award two (2) $1,000 postsecondary scholarships awarded to one (1) male and one (1) female IHSAA student-athlete who exhibit good character, leadership, and teamwork in the classroom, in competition, and in their community. Indiana native and Team IP Founder and CEO, Randy Sparks, created this scholarship to give back to his home state.

The IHSAA Foundation is also proud to announce that Timothy Swank of McCutcheon High School and Mia Treber of Plymouth High School have been selected as recipients of the 2023 David Cranfill Truehearted Teammate Award.

The David Cranfill Truehearted Teammate Award honors and supports two (2) student-athletes from IHSAA member schools, one (1) male and one (1) female, with a $1,000 scholarship who exhibit loyalty and faithfulness by putting their teammates, coaches, schools and community above themselves. The award was created in Cranfill’s honor after his passing in March of 2021. An advertising agency owner, a writer and a filmmaker, Cranfill worked tirelessly to promote the purity, passion and enthusiasm of Indiana high school sports.
