Chloe Spreen has earned the top individual award in Indiana high school girls basketball.
Spreen, a 5-10 guard from Bedford North Lawrence High School, has been named IndyStar Indiana Miss Basketball for 2024 in online voting of media and girls’ varsity coaches conducted by the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association and All-Star game director Mike Broughton, it was announced Friday (March 15).
The Miss Basketball result means Spreen will wear the No. 1 jersey for the Indiana All-Stars in their annual series with Kentucky. The Miss Basketball award goes to the top girls’ basketball senior in the state. The Miss Basketball and Mr. Basketball awards are part of the IndyStar Indiana All-Star program that dates to 1939. The Miss Basketball award, along with the girls All-Stars, was added to the All-Star program in 1976.
The complete of the 2024 Girls' All-Star team was announced this past Monday (March 11). The 2024 Mr. Basketball and the 2024 Boys' All-Star team also will be announced later. The 2024 girls' Junior All-Stars were announced on March 4. The boys' Junior All-Stars will be announced later.
Spreen earned the girls' top honor after being named on 117 ballots submitted to Broughton in balloting that ran from Feb. 20-29. Jordyn Poole of Fort Wayne Snider was runner-up with 71 votes. Reagan Wilson of Noblesville placed third with 57 votes followed by Juliann Woodard of Jennings County with 33 votes and Faith Wiseman of Indian Creek with 14 votes. There were 341 votes cast overall.
Spreen is the third Miss Basketball winner in BNL history, joining Marla Inman in 1992 and Jorie Allen in 2019. She also is the fourth Bedford player to wear No. 1, with Damon Bailey being voted Mr. Basketball in 1990. Spreen also is the program's 12th girls' and Bedford's 15th overall Indiana All-Star. The girls' list includes Ronda Hillenburg (1978), Kelly Fitzgerald (1983), Carrie Mount (1991), Amy Walker (1991), Inman, Jenna Allen (2015), Alexa Bailey (2015), Dominique McBryde (2015), Jorie Allen, Chloe McKnight (2021) and Karsyn Norman (2023). The boys' list includes John Brennan from the old Bedford High School (1943), Damon Bailey and Cole Sinclair (2001).
A University of Alabama recruit, Spreen averaged 20.4 points, 6.9 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 1.4 steals in leading Bedford North Lawrence to a 20-5 season and a 13th consecutive sectional championship. That came after a junior season where she averaged 19.0 points, 5.3 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 2.7 steals in keying the Lady Stars to 27-3 campaign that include the 2023 Class 4A state championship.
For her career, Spreen totaled 1,869 points, 633 rebounds, 259 assists and 200 steals while BNL amassed an aggregate record of 93-14 over her four seasons (22-3, 24-3, 27-3 and 20-5). She stands second on the BNL all-time list in girls' basketball scoring with Jorie Allen is the leader with 1,930 points. Spreen also is a four-time IBCA All-State selection, including a three-time IBCA Supreme 15 honoree. She was a 2023 Associated Press first-team All-State pick, and she was a 2024 McDonald's All-American nominee. In addition, she was a four-time all-Hoosier Hills Conference selection.

The current Alabama women's basketball roster includes 2021 All-Star Meg Newman of Indianapolis North Central. The Crimson Tide are coached by former Purdue coach Kristy Curry, and one of her assistant coaches is 1995 All-Star Tennille Adams of East Chicago Central.
Mr. Basketball and Miss Basketball traditionally wear No. 1 jerseys for the respective Indiana Boys All-Stars and Indiana Girls All-Stars in the annual series with Kentucky. The All-Stars will face the Indiana Junior All-Stars in an exhibition doubleheader on June 5 at Kokomo. The All-Stars follow with their home-and-home doubleheaders with Kentucky -- June 7 at a site to be announced and June 8 at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.
