Red Flags Flying at WRV boys Job

jwd0xwh4mx2tpp8zir7v

White River Valley boys - Departing Coach Mike Hopkins
SWITZ CITY, Ind. -- (Updated 4/24) Good Varsity Club member reports information about the WRV Boys opening. Many that have known Coach Hopkins are simply in disbelief. Simply put, Coach did all that could be asked, and Varsity Clubber is indicating this is a pretty clear red flag situation for any incoming coach to be aware of. One report offers specifics regarding Hopkins coming to WRV with high energy, and a plan. He carried out his plan to improve the program from top to bottom, worked with the younger levels, and all coaches within the program, held Summer camps, open gyms for all levels, as well as Feeder program work. Here’s where it gets dicey. Report alleges the school board is led by an individual who has a son on the team (probably the most athletic and has started since he's been a freshman). Reportedly, said school board member has a wife who is very influential, and appears to be overly involved with sons athletics. There is one alleged encounter after game one of year one, when parent came into Coach's office and let him know that her son shoots 20 to 25 times a game in AAU. Report continues that parent posted several rants on facebook about how to motivate. Long story short, it appears that even though the Principal, Superintendent and Athletic Director reportedly all recommended Coach to be renewed, a parent who wants her son to be the focal point, and not "Coached hard, in a team first, structured environment" allegedly played a large part in convincing board Board not to renew. The reason Coach was given, "he didn't attend enough JH games, didn't work enough on the youth." Will this process repeat itself? Current board gave the guy two seasons, it's a revolving door. More expected but currently HS Science and Eled openings.

HH Varsity Club Insider: Finding Points a challenge at Valpo boys

Valpo boys - Departing Coach Barak Coolman
VALPARAISO, Ind. -- (Updated 5/15) Coach Coolman departs to take over the boys program at Penn. Last year’s Vikes went 13-14 and finished Sectional runners-up to Chesterton. Valpo graduates last year’s leading scorer (20PPG) and rebounder in 6-7 Mason Jones, but does return 6-2 jr-2-b PG Jack Smiley. Beyond that it might be tough finding points unless there is some serious offseason player development. A 16-win JV should help, but getting this team over 40PPG will be a challenge. Two experienced post players are expected back in 6-6 Alec Platipodis and 6-5 Matt Hofer. Both logged substantial minutes, but each tallied just a couple of buckets a game and will certainly take on a much larger load this fall. 8th grade reportedly went 12-6 and 7th was 17-1 last year. With the Sectional Valpo is in and the nightmare schedule in the Dunland, getting to 500 will be a tall order for new coach next season. HS Science, HS Math, A couple of unique ones as well: HS Culinary Arts,HS Vet Science, HS Building Trades. MS Math, MS Sped, and Eled. More expected.

HH Varsity Club Insider: Underclass Optimism at Triton Central boys

we99z3vnsdvbrq6vgfo8

Triton Central boys - Departing Coach Kyle Ballard
FAIRLAND, Ind. -- (Updated 5/15)
Coach Ballard now reported as a done deal at Franklin Central opening the Triton Central job. Be advised that TC not officially accepting apps yet, but wanted to give those interested a heads-up. Last season the Tigers went 17-7 before bowing out to Scecina in Sectional. Good Varsity Clubber reports that top two scorers graduate and a third senior contributor goes with them. However, there is some optimism is a pretty strong group of underclassmen that will likely be multi-year starters. 5-10 soph-to b guard, Eli Sego proved his with by going for about 12ppg last season as a varsity frosh. Fellow classmate and backcourter Max Crouse also appeared in most varsity games. 6-5 jr-2-b Silas Blair dropped 10 and 5 last season as a soph frontliner. Varsity Clubber adds that JV was about a game or so above 500, but a very strong 8th grade went 19-1. Further down the line, last year’s 7th finished 10-7. Good Varsity Club member has reported TC alum and current Whiteland Coach Nate Cangany as a name getting much mention. However, wiseguys have money on Cangany staying put. HS Social Studies confirmed. Alternative ed opening expected.

Update on Heritage Christian boys situation

acemahaqy7ldtmmtmhol

Heritage Christian boys - Departing Coach Brandon Coffer (Interim)
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- (Updated 3/14) Interim Coach Coffer went 3-6 during his time leading the Eagles. The entire campaign finished at 11-12 a first round Sectional exit courtesy of Brebeuf. Varsity Club report predicts a step back for the Eagles next season, as shit ton graduates. A couple of underclassmen earned varsity minutes, but none were major contributors in any way. On the bright side, JV was pretty solid last season, but those guys will have to make that big step to varsity level. Despite Heritage Christian’s small enrollment, report states they field two teams in both 7th and 8th grade which helps. HC boasts one of the larger coaching staffs in the area, and while inside interest is expected, Varsity Clubbers states finding a dynamic outside candidate may be the goal of some in the hiring process. Report continues, “After all, no one grows up in the Heritage Christian school district dreaming of playing in blue. Every kid, every family has to choose to go here. That personality is a must.” Love it or hate it, that is probably very true. Only teaching gig at this point in the early spring is HS English. Not timeline yet. (Updated 3/25) More insight now that Heritage has officially opened their interim position. Coach Coffer went 3-6 after Coach Warren Wallace resigned offering a cryptic, “Working relationship” issue as the reason in late January. Link to story, but don’t look for much clarity - https://www.yahoo.com/now/warren-wallace-resigns-heritage-christian-154602682.html Good Varsity Clubber reports five seniors graduate not the least of which, Purdue recruit Myles Colvin. The 6-6 stud feasted on 3A HC’s schedule, which included 11 1A and 2A opponents. Incoming coach will likely need that schedule as the talent level reportedly drops-off the table. But getting back to Myles. Good Varsity Club member reports that there are several issues that will/could impact new coach. One being perceived lack of support from admin when attempting to discipline a star player. Another is the long standing conflict of players growing up within a program only to lose playing time to transfer studs. Both problems allegedly played a role in last year’s star-studded 11-12 mark (and first round Sectional ousting via Brebeuf.) A Varsity Clubber familiar with the program reports that a core of 4-5 srs-2-b did log varsity time last year, although none went for more than a handful of buckets a game. Internal interest expected, but unclear which direction admin wants to go at this point. HS English is about it at this point. JV described as solid. (Updated 5/15) Good Varsity Clubber reports Heritage Christian will have assistant AD, Aaron Larson, run the boys basketball summer program. He is a former assistant coach at Taylor University.

Bedford North Lawrence Boys Open

Jeff Hein has resigned as boys basketball coach at Bedford North Lawrence.

HH Varsity Club Insider: Lighthouse takes graduation Gut Punch

gdh7jwsqdtti7rf7m3ep

Lighthouse Christian Academy - Departing Coach Jeff Mills
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- (Updated 5/11) Coach Mills departs to accept the girls job at Cascade. TRuly not much served regarding recapping last season because.. Good Varsity Club member reports seven seniors depart the Lions program this spring, and it will be a true gut punch to their high-scoring varsity roster. Just one jr-2-b (5-8 guard Brock Banks) is set to return with any varsity time whatsoever. His 5ppg is it. 6-5 jr-2-b Keaton Jones appeared in about half the games last season, but will most likely be pressed into a substantial role based upon the fact that he is the only height in the program at this point. JV was competitive last season, and barring the transfer portal, they will be called upon to suit-up. 8th reportedly not good. No teaching positions at this time, but Lighthouse has grown accustomed to lay coaching hires.

HH Varsity Club Insider: IHSAA decision huge for Gwood Openings

g4xarnp9zebtgev4dtls

Greenwood boys - Departing Coach Joe Bradburn
GREENWOOD, Ind. -- (Updated 5/8) Coach Bradburn departs to take over at Mt. Vernon Fortville. The Woodies struggled to an 8-15 mark last season. A trio of proven underclassmen (Jake Moseman, Jakeb Hornbeak, Cade Kelly) should be back to help set next year’s line-up. Problems for Gwood will be finding height. Graduation and the departure of Gwood girls coach (soph-2-b son would’ve played prominent roll) leaves the Woodie front line very undersized. Feeder classes last year final records: JV 6-15, 8th 12-5, 7th 0-15. However, the biggest factor in this job will be the IHSAA Executive Committee’s decision on whether or not to reclassify small 4A’s this summer. If that passes, the 1200 student Gwood then becomes a very solid job as a long term large 3A. If it fails, the Woodmen will remain mired in a Sectional where most schools double their enrollment. Another issue that may be part of Greenwood’s future involves its traditional membership in the the Mid-State Conference. As time has passed, a landlocked Greenwood finds itself easily the smallest school in the batch. It has remained competitive, but the gap is only widening, and membership into the next 5-10 years is spoken of often. Current membership includes: Perry Meridian, Martinsville, Plainfield, Decatur Central, Franklin, Whiteland, and Mooresville. HS Social Studies, HS Sped, Coach Bradford’s Business position should be in play as well. Some internal interest expected - Jake Rockey-GW teacher and assistant coach

HH Varsity Club Insider: Connersville set to return state-worst 3ppg

cxxt1ofqzmt79brm11ro

Connersville boys - Departing Coach Kerry Brown
CONNERSVILLE, Ind. -- (Updated 5/8) Coach Brown reportedly told his Spartan team he was leaving Connersville this AM. Varsity Clubbers are reporting his name is heard to the board at Rushville, so this change is all but official. Connersville graduates a senior-heavy group that had no less than seven srs seeing heavy action on a nightly basis. Good Varsity Clubber reports Connersville set to return a state worst 3ppg in total offense. Thankfully the JV was not awful last season, as they will be counted upon heavily to field next season’s varsity roster. The reserves went 12-10, but glass half full, were 6-1 in conference play. Middle school reported as being competitive. Teaching openings reported include: MS Math, Eled, HS Social Studies. Mixed reports on admin willingness to hire from within. One Varsity Club member report speculates hiring search. Another points to possible internal candidate, Charles Peterson.

HH Varsity Club Insider: Rushville boys..

sjfdvihc8w1kpxqe1lnk

Rushville boys - Departing Coach Ryan Ehm
RUSHVILLE, Ind. -- (Updated 4/17) Coach Ehm will not be returning after two seasons with the Lions. The Eastern Athletic Conference proved extra difficult as they went 0-7. Last go round Rushville posted a 5-20 mark, and a good Varsity Club member reports only two seniors graduate, but loss consists of two leading scorers (10ppg & 8ppg,) almost all ball handling, and the majority of rebounding. Six letter winners should be back, but they are limited in ability. It will take a great deal of off season development for these roster members to take the next step, and that, the report states, is a long shot. JV went just about .500, so some competition for playing time from there might help. Not much going on in terms of middle school success either. The long term effects speak for themselves. Stipend is an odd-figured $8365.78. Openings include: HS Math, HS Social Studies, Eled, Sped at multiple levels, and MS Science. Some internal interest expected. JV Coach James Zachery mentioned.

HH Varsity Club Insider: Not much returning for NJSP Blue Jays

ts9q1jy5nedehoaeehkm

North Judson girls - Departing Coach Bayley Goodman
NORTH JUDSON, Ind. -- (Updated 5/5) Now official that NJSP is accepting apps after two seasons (5-18 and 15-8) with Coach Goodman leading the Blue Jays. Good Varsity Clubber emails report stating three seniors graduate including leading scorer and rebounder Sophia Frasure (16ppg 8rpg.) What should be returning is a roster with three starters from last year. However, report does state that these players were, for the most part, supporting pieces - Only about 12 points of offense expected back. JV posted a losing record last year, and report states no impact players. If incoming coach has long term plans for being at NJSP, Varsity Club member reports a dynamite 6th grade group that won the Hoosier North Athletic Conference title (North Judson, Pioneer, LaVille, Culver, Knox, Triton Trojans, and Winamac) last season. Teaching jobs limited at this time include: HS/MS Sped, Eled art. Maybe HS Business.
