Valpo boys - Departing Coach Barak Coolman
VALPARAISO, Ind. -- (Updated 5/15) Coach Coolman departs to take over the boys program at Penn. Last year’s Vikes went 13-14 and finished Sectional runners-up to Chesterton. Valpo graduates last year’s leading scorer (20PPG) and rebounder in 6-7 Mason Jones, but does return 6-2 jr-2-b PG Jack Smiley. Beyond that it might be tough finding points unless there is some serious offseason player development. A 16-win JV should help, but getting this team over 40PPG will be a challenge. Two experienced post players are expected back in 6-6 Alec Platipodis and 6-5 Matt Hofer. Both logged substantial minutes, but each tallied just a couple of buckets a game and will certainly take on a much larger load this fall. 8th grade reportedly went 12-6 and 7th was 17-1 last year. With the Sectional Valpo is in and the nightmare schedule in the Dunland, getting to 500 will be a tall order for new coach next season. HS Science, HS Math, A couple of unique ones as well: HS Culinary Arts,HS Vet Science, HS Building Trades. MS Math, MS Sped, and Eled. More expected.
