Elkhart boys - Departing Coach Kyle Sears ELKHART, Ind. -- Will Coatie (Closed 5/22
Elkhart girls - Departing Coach Will Coatie
ELKHART, Ind. -- (Updated 5/22)Coach Coatie moves to the boys job leaving the girls position open. Last year’s Lions went 14-10 and lost a close one to Northridge in Sectional final. It is not uncommon for coaches to look for a change of venue when a lurch in talent is on the horizon. However, good Varsity Club member reports the opposite is the case with the Elkhart girls program. The Lions graduate just two (less than a bucket a game,)and six of the main varsity contributors were underclassmen last year - all are expected back. This job is loaded and boasted no less than five frosh that appeared in varsity games last season - three of whom were true contributors. Varsity Club member also reports JV was 13-6 lasts eason Internal interest expected from lay assistant coach Matt Kitson. However, Elkhart has several teaching jobs to work with: HS PE/Health, Eled, MS ELA, HS ELA, HS Math, MS Math, HS Science, MS Science, HS Social Studies, and MS Social Studies.
Mater Dei girls - Departing Coach Doug Blair (interim) EVANSVILLE, Ind. -- (Updated 5/22) Sooo this position had previously been posted as open several weeks ago. However, there was a request to take it down from school admin as they reported Coach Chad Breeden had taken a leave of absence last year for health issues and was back to coaching again this year. Now official that Coach Breeden has stepped down and position is in fact open. No teaching positions available at Mater Dei at this time.
As has been rumored it appears Lion head coach Ryan Haywood is indeed leaving for the Southridge Raiders. This will be the 6th head coach for Loogootee in 21 years after having just one coach for 45 years.
The vacancy has been posted on the Loogootee schools page. I am going to contact my guys down south and see if I can learn anything more regarding this.
I don't know this to be true but I am hearing that North Put's Sup decided against the recommendation to not renew Coach Brooks (Boys Basketball) contract. Is this true?
Speedway has an opening in its basketball program. We are in search of a head coach for our 7th Grade Grade Girls' Basketball Team. Anyone interested should apply at: www.speedwayschools.net/581455_3
I'm late to dinner on this one as no Varsity Club connections at Traders Point. Not anymore!
Traders Point boys - Departing Coach Shaun Busik
WHITESTOWN, Ind. -- (Updated 5/18) Coach Busik departs after two seasons at TPC to accept the Greensburg helm. LAst season the Knights were 18-7, but fell in the Sectional final to Bethesda. From that squad 3 seniors (and likely Coach Busik’s underclass son) depart, but 4 other letter winners should return. Of that batch 6-1 sr-2-b guard TJ Robinson is arguably the best. His 11PPG easily paces the returnees. Beyond that there is varsity experience, but very limited production. A couple of 6-4 srs-2-b will likely provide post presence, but again, starting from scratch in terms of them being main cogs at this level. JV went 9-6 last season, and it appears some pretty decent middle school groups moving up. 8th was 11-5 and 7th went 17-0. HS Chemistry, Eled, HS Science. Reportedly some internal interest - JV/Lay coach Dave Yaraschefski mentioned.
The rumor is MIchael Bryum is going to the board tonight as the new boys basketball head coach. Coach Bryum has been at Northview and South Vermillion previously.
Riverton Park boys - Departing Coach Aaron Hines MONTEZUMA, Ind. -- (Updated 5/16) Coach Hines has reportedly taken an admin job at South Vermillion. Last year’s Panthers went 10-15, and from that roster eight seniors matriculate. Good Varsity Clubber reports only about 12PPG are expected in returning, and about 10 of that comes in the form of 5-10 sr-2-b PG Piers Robbins. After Robbins, it is slim pickings. 6-3 sr-2-b Nick McDonald is it as far as height in the program, and he is unproven at the varsity level. 6-win JV will likely offer little help. Incoming Frosh were above 500 last year, but last year’s 7th grade described as awful. Stipend $6200. Teaching openings include: MS Social Studies, HS Social Studies, Sped, HS English, and Eled
Tecumseh girls - Departing Coach Jennie Toopes
Lynnville, Ind. -- (Updated 4/10) Coach Toops has left after just one season (10-14) with the Braves. Good Varsity Club member reports several more pieces graduate from the 2021 1A State Championship 20-win roster. Only 5-10 sr-2-b forward Jenna Donohoo expected back from that strong squad. Decent JV should help plus a handful of varsity underclass holdovers should keep the Braves competitive. However, tourney runs may be out of reach for the time being. Good Varsity Club member reports all assistants were lay coaches - maybe one interested. Special Ed positions only at this time. A lot of volleyball and softball success, but hoops is the third sport at Tecumseh at present.
Shoot two free throws after five fouls in each quarter.
Not looking forward to sitting at the table and having people yell at us for clearing team fouls from the scorebook after the first and third quarters..
Mark V needs to get busy with a new scorebook. Given that this is the women's college rule there has to be scorebooks that exist that track fouls by quarter.
Fields set for 2023 IBCA/IHSAA Team Showcase events
Inaugural girls’ event June 16-17 at HSE, Mt. Vernon; fourth boys' event June 23-25 at Carmel, Westfield
Seventy-two girls' teams and 156 boys' teams are set to participate in the 2023 IBCA/IHSAA Team Showcase events in June.
The inaugural IBCA/IHSAA girls' Team Showcase is set for June 16-17 at Hamilton Southeastern and Mt Vernon (Fortville), while the fourth IBCA/IHSAA boys' Team Showcase in memory of Charlie Hughes is planned for June 23-25 at Carmel and Westfield.
The Indiana Basketball Coaches Association and the IHSAA partner to make each Showcase a "scholastic event" under NCAA and National Federation of State High School Associations rules, thereby making the events open for NCAA Division I coaches to attend in person for purposes of evaluating prospective players. Only events sanctioned by the IHSAA and IBCA may have NCAA Division I coaches attend during this "scholastic recruiting period."
The IBCA also works with Charlie Hughes Basketball in managing both events. Craig Lyon of Charlie Hughes Basketball coordinates with IBCA chief operating officer Tom Beach in making game schedules, hiring officials, securing game facilities (events may be played in only IHSAA-member facilities) and assists, if needed, in housing arrangements.
Participating teams generally play four games in the events, although some teams choose for a one-day option where they play just two games. Each contest in these events is a regulation 32-minute stop-clock game, not a running-clock game like in many other summer events. No team plays more than two games in one day.
Teams are assigned a pool based on competitive play (organizers attempt to have teams play four competitive games against a "similar" team), whether a team's coach selects the one-day or two-day option, and organizers trying to avoid teams playing opponents they typically play during the regular season.
These Team Showcase events are not tournaments, and no champions are determined. However, these Team Showcase events offer four competitive games to help each team develop while also allowing college coaches to watch the games in person.
The two-day girls' event begins at 9:00 a.m. June 16 with final games starting at 8:00 p.m. June 17. Games are at Hamilton Southeastern High School, 12499 Olio Rd., Fishers, IN 46037, and Mt. Vernon High School, 8112 N. 200 W., Fortville, IN 46040. A list of registered teams is below.
The three-day boys' event begins at 4:00 p.m. June 23 with final games starting at 3:00 p.m. June 25. Games are at Carmel High School, 520 E. Main St., Carmel, IN 46032, and Westfield High School, 18250 N. Union St., Westfield, IN 46074. A list of registered teams is below.
Both IBCA/IHSAA Team Showcase events are open to the public. Admission is $10 per day. IBCA members are admitted free by showing their membership card at the door.
The IBCA and IHSAA began working with Charlie Hughes Basketball in the fall of 2018 when the NCAA created a "scholastic" period in its men's basketball recruiting calendar for June 2019. Charlie Hughes Basketball had started a summer boys' basketball school-team developmental event in 2005 and ran it successfully for 14 years. The event was renamed in Hughes' memory after he passed away in December 2014.
In 2022, coaches from 85 colleges attended the third IBCA/IHSAA boys' Team Showcase in memory of Charlie Hughes. Colleges with coaches on hand included Air Force, Anderson, Appalachian State, Army (West Point), Auburn, Austin Peay, Ball State, Barry, Bellarmine, Belmont, Bowling Green, Bradley, Butler, California, Cedarville, Central Florida, Chicago, Cincinnati, Culver-Stockton, Dayton, DePauw, Drake, Earlham, Eastern Illinois, Elmhurst, Evansville;
Also, Fairmont State, Florida Atlantic, Franklin, Grand Canyon, Hanover, Hope, Huntington, Illinois, Illinois-Chicago, Illinois State, Indiana, Indiana State, Indiana Wesleyan, Indianapolis, IU-East, IUPUI, Judson, Kent State, LeMoyne, Liberty, Lincoln Memorial, Louisville, Maine, Miami (Ohio), Michigan, Michigan State, Middle Tennessee State, Missouri State, Navy, Nevada, New Orleans, Northwestern, Northwood;
Also, Ohio State, Purdue, Purdue-Fort Wayne, Purdue-Northwest, Rose-Hulman, Southeast Missouri State, Southern Illinois-Carbondale, Southern Illinois-Edwardsville, Southern Indiana, Southern New Hampshire. Taylor, Texas A&M, Trine, UC-San Diego, Valparaiso, Virginia Military Institute, Wabash, Western Kentucky, Western Michigan, William & Mary, Wisconsin, Wisconsin-Green Bay, Wofford, Wright State and Wyoming.
This is the first year that the NCAA has created a "scholastic" period in its women's basketball recruiting calendar, so this is the first year for the IBCA/IHSAA girls' Team Showcase.
Net proceeds from both Team Showcase events support the IBCA Scholarship Fund and Riley Children's Hospital in Indianapolis.

Curious if anyone had thoughts on this show. I enjoyed the old game footage, although as with most Netflix documentaries, I felt the story could've been told with one episode rather than being spread over two. Truly enjoyed seeing Wilt playing. That dude was ridiculous.
Jennings County boys - Departing Coach Josh Land
NORTH VERNON, Ind. -- (Updated 5/16) Coach Land’s move to an administrative position at JC has been the catalyst for his basketball resignation. Coach Land departs after season seasons with the Panthers. Last year was a memorable one for JC as they captured a rare Regional title. That’s the bright side. Varsity Club member reports seven senior depart, and the landscape for the Panthers will likely look vastly different. A handful of quality holdovers will likely return to keep them competitive. 6-4 soph-2-b guard Parker Elmore has many in North Vernon excited as he appeared in all varsity contests last year as a frosh and is on track to be a four-year starter. 5-10 Jr-2-b guard Carter Kent returns as a proven shooter at 16PPG, and 5-8 sr-2-b Cole Sigler is an athletic letter winner that should also help. After that it’s a new herd. With so few remaining on the varsity roster, last year’s 12-11 JV will be called upon for help. North Vernon Varsity Clubber also reports strong middle school teams - 8th was 13-7 and 7th finished 15-5. Current positions are scares, but more are expected later: Eled, HS FACS, Coach Land’s MTSS (intervention) position expected to become open as well.
