HH Varsity Club Insider: Delphi Opening Graduates Lone senior

emuqr4aibuimkn5atqaj

Delphi girls - Departing Coach Tod Winlan
DELPHI, Ind. -- (Updated 5/2) Coach Winlan went 10-14 during his one season with Delphi. Coach now begins work at his tenth school. The 2A Oracles reportedly graduate just one senior and only about 5ppg. Varsity Club member report goes on to point to just one letter winner topping double digits last season in jr-2-b Jenna Roth (12ppg.) However, report insists that several are ready to take the next step to equal her offensive output. As with many young teams, turnovers were a true obstacle, and will again be an area for improvement. That being said, Varsity Clubber is confident that a .500 mark is very attainable in both regular season and conference play. No help expected from JV. Limited info on last season’s middle school teams. 7th not good. 6th very strong. MS Health, HS Sped, MS Social Studies, and Eled. More expected. $8000 stipend

HH Varsity Club Insider: Ole Miss Growing Pains likely to Benefit New Coach

l7eolicfoe7evkwhgi0u

Mississinewa boys - Departing Coach James Reed
GAS CITY, Ind. -- (Updated 5/2) Coach Reed will not be back for a 6th season in Gas City. Last year the Indians were 6-17, and struggled with just two seniors on the roster. Good Varsity Club member reports last year’s growing pains will likely help in-coming coach as neither senior from last year’s squad was a major contributor. Now less than eight underclassmen suffered through some on-the-job training last year. As the record indicates, none of them blew the doors off last year, but Varsity Clubber does point out6-1 soph-2-b Logan Barnes (12ppg) and 5-11 sr-2-b backcourt partner Preston McCann (11ppg) as reason for optimism. Not a ton of height in the mix, but 6-5 jr-2-b Jaxon Ott brings his middle linebacker sensibilities to the post. Given so many underclassmen were logging varsity time last go round, it’s a bit surprising that the JV was right near .500. Report continues that middle school squads were pretty decent last year as well - 8th 10-5, 7th 8-7. Report states Ole miss with current openings at Eled, HS Industrial Arts, HS Science, and MS Alternative. One report of potential internal interest but no name.

OT: 2023 IHSAA Baseball Pairings!

A field of 389 teams will begin play later this month as the pairings for the 56th Annual IHSAA Baseball State Tournament Series were announced this evening in Indianapolis. Host schools will announce playing schedules which will then be added to the online brackets at MaxPreps.com the week before the tournament begins.

Sectional games begin Wednesday, May 24, and continue through Memorial Day (Monday, May 29), with regionals on Saturday, June 3.

This year’s state tournament has a different format than in previous years as the regional round and semi-state round have essentially switched.

The regional is now a single-game with two championship games being played back-to-back in a doubleheader format at the same site. The semi-state becomes a two-round affair with the winner advancing to the state championship game.

The four state championship games will be played at Victory Field in Indianapolis, home of the Triple-A franchise Indianapolis Indians, for the 25th year overall. This year’s games will be played in a doubleheader format on Friday, June 16 and Saturday, June 17.

HH Varsity Club Insider: Greencastle opens with Solid Front Runner

uncy0jwdsitxhhhlxsek

Greencastle girls - Departing Coach Doug Greenlee
GREENCASTLE, Ind. -- (Updated 4/28) Coach Greenlee has resigned citing difficulty of serving as both coach and AD. Good Varsity Club member reports roster should return to more consistent neighborhood school ability levels after stellar homeschool transfer graduates. Assistant Jessica Lenihan reported to be heir apparent.

HH Varsity Club Insider: 3-win Snider boys job Open

ms8rurgxm8ssthsfjezm

Snider boys - Departing Coach Jeremy Rauch
FT. WAYNE, Ind. -- (Updated 4/28) Coach Rauch announced via Twitter that he was resigning citing family reasons. Coach led the Panthers for seven seasons. Last year was a rare rough one for Snider, as they struggled to just a 3-21 mark. Some silver lining for the incoming coach is that only 3 seniors depart and none were huge contributors. Varsity Club report states that 8 underclassmen logged substantial varsity minutes last year. While none are going to make the Indiana All-Stars, sr-2-b PG Ke’ron Billingsly is arguably the best. In addition to ball handling duties, he also went for about 12ppg last go round. Unfortunately he was the only Panther to hit double figures on any kind of consistent basis. Varsity Clubber also reports JV was blown out on a pretty consistent basis. Openings reported at Snider: HS Sped, HS PE. Several Eled and MS positions within the FW system also reported.

HH Varsity Club Insider: Pioneer Returns Several Solid Pieces

vvvbmfir3qu5g6pqycre

Pioneer girls - Departing Coach Jeff Brooke
ROYAL CENTER, Ind. -- (Updated 4/27)
Indy Star is reporting that Coach Brooke has stepped down after seven seasons with the Panthers. The last four have been in the rare air of 20+ win seasons. 2023 ended at 21-4 and a disappointing 2-point Sectional loss to North Miami. According to good Varsity Club member, the Panthers graduate 3 of the 7 regulars from last season’s roster. Among them is 24ppg Ashlynn Brooke whose guard duties and scoring will be missed in a huge way. What remains is a pretty decent group, but not much offense. A couple of 8ppg players is about it. Pretty decent post play on both ends of the court should be part of the returning cast as well. If a solid point can emerge, Pioneer has a good chance of being a very solid squad again. No help expected from a JV that struggled to hit 20ppg in many contests. HS Sped is it for teaching jobs at this time, but more may avail themselves.

HH Varsity Club Insider: Sullivan Looks Solid for coming Seasons

pfybtxlqhvst3tttipah

Sullivan girls - Departing Coach Julie Meeks
SULLIVAN, Ind. -- (Updated 4/26) Sullivan has officially posted this position as open. Coach meeks won 252 games during her 20 years with the Golden Arrows. Most recently Sullivan was 15-10. Varsity Club member reports the skinny that of the 8-9 letter winners last season, all but two are expected back. 6-0 jr-2-b post Jacie Wilson was last year’s leading scorer (13 ppg 8rpg) and is set to anchor the middle for the next two seasons. Another very intriguing returner is soph-2-b backcourter Avari Kelley. She logged considerable PG time last year as a varsity frosh, and did so effectively. Several other returning pieces and a 14-win JV squad should put the Arrows in place to be competitive for several seasons. One thing working in Sullivan’s favor has been their membership is Western Indiana Conference, where the Arrows have owned a fair share of teams over the years. Variety Clubber reports Admin likely to look outside for this one. Eled openings, but admin would like to pair with HS PE/Health
