Lakeland Lady Lakers win first sectional title in 25 years. It was the longest drought of the 64 sectional winners.
Coach Dale Gearheart in his first year at Lakeland was able to end many years of no titles since Sherry Severson won in 1996.
The team celebrated by receiving a police and firetruck escort home from Wawa see High after defeating defending state champ Northwood 46-33.
The team with only 13 girls in the program was anchored by seniors,Bailey Hartsough and Madison Kiel. Faith Kiehl, a sophomore, was a key player until injured early in the season.
The Lady Lakers 20-7 will meet Griffith at Jimtown in game one Saturday.
Coach Gearheart previously coached both girls and boys in Indiana plus 3 years in Virginia. He is a graduate of Southern Wells and played collegiate ball at Huntington University.
