Jay County boys - Departing Coach Jerry Bomholt
PORTLAND, Ind. -- (Updated 2/6) Jay County high school has issued a media release stating Coach Bomholt has stepped-down citing health concerns. Current JV Coach Brogan Gary is serving as interim (Updated 3/10) Now official Jay is opening interim and accepting apps through 3/28. Coach Gary finished the season at 13-10 after taking over for coach Jerry Bomholt. The Patriots were first round Sectional casualties of Yorktown, 69-45. Good Varsity Club member reports that new coach will lose only two seniors (11PPG and 3PPG,) and will likely return four regular contributors and nearly 40PPG. Decent pieces reported here including one of the taller rosters in the entire state. An additional Varsity Clubber reports this might be an genuinely good team with a decent chance to make some post season noise. IF that is to happen, several things will need to ben and brake just right - none the least of which is getting a couple 8PPGers to take the next step. Some experienced ball handling is expected back, and no shortage of defensive length. All told, this could be interesting for new coach. Even better news - Varsity Clubber indicates both 7th and 8th grade groups are winners with some decent kids coming thru. 8th finished 15-5. 7th was 19-2 and won conference title.
