Rensselaer boys - Departing Coach Chad Pulver
RENSSELAER, Ind. -- (Updated 4/17)
Red flags flapping.. Already numerous Varsity Club reports involving selfish families/players and a school board willing to bend an ear. For the record, Coach Pulever helped bring the Bombers their first Sectional title in 17 years only two seasons ago. For perspective they’ve only enjoyed three Sectional titles in the last 50 years. Also led them to the school’s first Hoosier Conference Championship in 2023 (Ham Hts, Western, Logan, Tipton, Benton Central, Lafayette Catholic, West Lafayette, and Twin Lakes.) Coach went 92-75 during his seven years there. Not enough for the board to extend his contract. Aside from a ridiculously cool and politically incorrect mascot, Rensselaer has been a poster child for mediocrity. What exactly would a Rensselaer school board like to see in terms of results? Great question. The 2A Bombers reportedly graduate a bunch, but are expected to return last year’s leading scorer in 6-1 sr-2-b guard Corbin Mathew (16PPG, 5RPG.) 6-5 classmate and post Bryan Camarena (7PPG) is the other experienced holdover. JV is described as below average. All told, the sum of next year’s parts is less than what the Bombers put on the floor last year. Getting enough wins to keep the board happy will be a chore. Unless, it only takes minutes of certain players to keep them happy(?) Here’s hoping the incoming coach can solve this riddle before this school corp can further impact another livelihood. For what it’s worth, last year’s 8th grade decent. 7th was about .500. If a Varsity Bomber coach would be around long enough to engage last year’s 6th graders.. They had a winning record. MS Science, MS SS, MS ELA, and HS Spanish.
