Greenwood girls - (Updated 5/4) Looks as though early speculation now correct. Gwood will for certain open to outside candidates. Greenwood finds itself as a small 4A in a Sectional field that routinely boasts schools of nearly twice their enrollment. That uphill battle is offset a great deal by the reality of Greenwood having a flat-out A+ record when dealing with coaches long term. Coaches that conduct themselves professionally, and do all that they are expected to do, are treated with the professionalism and respect by a coach-friendly admin. Read: Gwood does not fire coaches for lack of talent. That’s a simple enough concept, but I would put their track record up against any school in the state in that regard. During my 20+ years associated with Woodmen athletics, I cannot recall a coach being fired on account of losing. That’s not saying that all is peachy among parents etc, but at least admin is there for support. There’s a lot to be said for being able to look at a coaching job as a potential career stop to raise a family etc without having to ‘rent.’ Plus you get to hang out with me all winter, which is pretty much priceless.
