Lebanon girls - Departing Coach Candace Huckstep
LEBANON, Ind. -- (Updated 2/8) Coach Huckstep has announced administration’s decision to let her go via LHS basketball’s Facebook page. Comments are interesting and paint an intriguing picture of what gives in Tigerland right now. Coach went 63-58 during her five years there. Previous four seasons: (15-9 2nd round Sectional loss to Chatard) (15-8 2nd round Sectional loss to Chatard) (11-13 1st round Sectional loss to Guerin) (11-13 2nd round Sectional loss to Cascade.) Listing these details because reportedly being fired for W/L record. For the record Lebanon has been very competitive during Coach’s time there. Most recently Lebanon finished 11-15 and managed to advance to the Sectional title game before getting drubbed by a very strong Danville (22-3.) The Tigers also finished fourth in the eight-team Sagamore Conference with a record of 4-3. As far as what incoming coach with have to work with, only three seniors leave, and they combined for just 11 PPG. A pretty solid group of four srs-2-b are expected back which include the squad’s top two scorers. Good Varsity Club member insisted this should not be overstated as nobody is dropping double digits consistently, but enough should be back from the varsity underclassmen to remain competitive. Now, is that enough given the current climate at Lebanon? Good Varsity Clubber insists that’s the million dollar question. A 16-4 JV should help as well. Report goes on to state there are several middle schools that play for pretty strong AAU programs in addition to the school teams. Another factor that makes this job slightly more attractive is that it no longer resides in the non-public Sectional where it rested for the bulk of Coach Huckstep’s tenure. There for a while there was an unnatural cluster of privates, and Lebanon was smack in the middle of their ping-pong balls. That is indeed a plus as the Sectional field is now primarily made-up of fellow Sagamore Conference foes. No teaching gigs at Lebanon currently. No timeline for hiring yet available either as opening not yet officially listed. No confirmation on interest level, but texts have suggested current LHS VA Megan Alexander (Former head coach at Webo) as potential candidate.
