Lapel girls - Departing Coach Zach Newby
LAPEL, Ind. -- (Updated 6/21) Several reports now that Coach Newby has resigned. Last year’s Bulldogs ran off a fantastic season going 23-5 and capturing a Regional title along the way. Multiple Varsity Club reports all point to one of the more dynamic jrs-2-b in 6-0 Laniah Willis (18PPG & 13RPG.) However, the story would seem to rest more upon whether she will be wearing Lapel black and gold next winter or follow sister in the transfer portal to Anderson. The back-to-back Anderson Tribune female basketball player of the year is really that much of a difference maker. After that, the drop off is legit. If she stays, the Bulldogs are a contender. If not, report states touching .500 will be a reach. Lapel alum and former star athlete, Peighton Dobbins served on staff last season, and if Lapel stays in house, her name has been mentioned as a possible. No teaching jobs open currently in Lapel.
