Knightstown boys - Departing Coach Chris VanPelt
KNIGHTSTOWN , Ind. -- (Updated 4/18) Now official that Coach VanPelt will not be returning for a second year. The Panthers were 11-12 last season and reportedly very competitive. Good Varsity Club member reports an overly active group of parents reportedly never wanted Coach from the start and truly never gave him a chance. In classic small school Indiana fashion, allegedly even the superintendent was involved. It’s not the first time politics have submarined the team chemistry of a young coach in Knightstown. Likely will not be the last either as this has become an accepted norm here. Report continues that four of the top six graduate. Considering the Panthers only return about 9PPG in total, incoming coach may want to insist on more than a one-year contract. JV was 15-5 last year and good Varsity Club member reports JV Coach Quin Schneider as a viable option from within. Another outside name being bantered about is Brian Klein formerly at BRV. HS Math and Eled are only teaching options at this point.
