New Albany jumped out to a 17-0 lead today against Reitz in the second game at Seymour. This would make it in to the largest lead before opponent scored category as the book stands today.
I wonder if New Albany is the first team on that list to lose the game?
Reitz just wore New Albany down - early in the game New Albany wasn't going to the bench, Reitz was.
I though the turning point came in the third quarter. New Albany led 45-33 and Reitz was going to the foul line. There was a couple of minutes of discussion as the officials straightened out who a foul had been called on. It was the second time in the quarter that this happened and a the foul call on a New Albany player was changed.
Once things were straightened out, the New Albany coach called timeout (leaving him with one) and spend at least half of the timeout berating the officials. New Albany was on a run (8-0 if I recall correctly). I think the timeout helped Reitz regroup and stem the push that New Albany had. New Albany also had used a timeout in the first quarter to save a possession. They really could have used another timeout in the fourth quarter when things started slipping away.
Against a team like Reitz, when they throw up their pressure you need to keep your composure.
The future looks bright for New Albany. The return a junior, sophomore and freshman who started (the soph and frorsh were most impressive) and had another freshman who played (who looked like he was in 7th great but played confidentally). If they can develop some bigs, they could go far the next few years.
The first game was a bit of surprise. Franklin Central jumped out 10-0 and Bloomington South spent most of the game getting back - I recall they had a brief lead late, but Franklin Central made enough plays to win.
I think in both games the more mentally strong team won. The two teams that let the officiating get in their heads aren't playing the night game.
I think we are off to Frankfort tonight to see Liberty and LCC.
If anyone is looking for two tickets to the Franklin Central - Reitz game, I left two at the register at Larrison's in downtown Seymour for someone to take.
And thanks to the Husker Dining Guide for the recommendation.
