River Forest girls - Departing Coach Ryan Gregory
HOBART, Ind. -- (Updated 4/1)
The River Forest job is now official, and according to good Varsity Clubber, admin is interested in moving very fast on this one. Coach Gregory was 7-15 last season, but report states it is important to point out that only one senior graduates, and she played almost no role in last year’s campaign. The Ingots had trouble scoring last season, only hitting at about 35 points per clip. Only one player, sr-2-b post D’yanna Hurn, went for about 14PPG. Also worth noting she pulled down a team best 11-12 RPG. Varsity Clubber insists, though, that there are several srs-2-b, and, maybe more importantly, several jrs-2-b that are on paper to return after logging substantial underclass varsity time. “Ingots have never won a Sectional - as in ever. They’ve only won 12 tourney games total since 1976, so there is zero tourney expectations in terms of school and community. They still may not have enough to get over that hump, but this could be a year they at least have a shot.” The Greater South Shore Conference is another source of trouble for the Ingots. Last season River Forest went 1-7 against conference foes Whiting, Calumet, Griffith, Noll, Illiana Christian, Lake Station, and Wheeler. Email also states no teaching jobs at present, but will likely change. Varsity Clubber wonders if teaching job openings might not come after a fast moving basketball hire is in the books. JV reported as terrible. Middle school teams decent and last year’s 6th grade pretty good.
