Carroll boys - Departing Coach Bodie Bender
FLORA, Ind. - (Updated 5/9) Coach Bender has resigned at Carroll, and a good Varsity Clubber is reporting he is a done deal to take over at Mishawaka. The Cougars have been nails the last two seasons, winning 20+ games each season. What is extremely interesting about this particular roster is that only one senior graduates and with him just about 5ppg. What is expected back is the top three scorers, top rebounder and leading ball handler. In all six contributing letter winners should be back from last year’s 24-2 squad. Varsity Clubber adds you can throw in a 16-5 JV squad to boot. One inside rname mentioned is Adam Tussinger, current JV coach and 8th grade teacher already in the system. However, another report states Carroll will likely entertain outside apps as well. Report indicates while more openings may be available, admin would like to pair with HS PE or HS English. (Updated 5/31) Did the first round of interviews 2 weeks ago. Rumor was second round of interviews was to be in front of school board. Coach should be announced soon.
South Vermillion boys - Departing Coach Shawn Nevill
CLINTON, Ind. -- (Updated 5/19) Good Varsity Clubber reports Coach Neville is taking a teaching job at Terre Haute South and is taking some time away from coaching for now. Last year the Wildcats went 12-13, and a good Varsity Club member reports five seniors to graduate including top three scorers and top three rebounders. Report from Clinton indicates five underclassmen did see quite a bit of varsity time last year. The problem rests in the fact that collectively the group scored just 20ppg by committee. Varsity Clubber reports a deeper dive does point to two frosh that are among that group, and there is some optimism there. A couple of 6-2’s is it for height right now. JV was 12-5 last season. 8th 2-13 and 7th was 8-7. Current openings reported as MS PE/Health, MS Art, Business, Eled.
