Received and wanted to pass along:
TO: Thorntown Basketball Fans & Friends…and especially former basketball players, cheerleaders, team managers, mascots, referees, A.D.s and coaches from our former 8/9 county schools. YOU ARE ENCOURAGED to attend…please invite all others interested in Boone County basketball, other players, your family and friends too!
This is the year Thorntown has celebrated and honored our championship basketball team as Thorntown won the Indiana High School Athletic Association Boys Basketball Championship in 1915. There have been special happenings this year such as:
ü educational team information presentations by the library and museum,
ü the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame honoring Thorntown High School at their March Awards Banquet as the 100th Year Championship Team,
ü a great article in the Indianapolis Star in early May,
ü neat anniversary t-shirts and a well-attended, enthusiastic Alumni Banquet in May,
ü participation with a 24 page Keepsake Alumni Booklet in the library’s time capsule,
ü and participation by Thorntown alumni friends in the Festival parade with parade marshals, the calliope and a basketball float! (The Festival invited the Thorntown Alumni Association and 2015 Officers to be the Festival of the Turning Leaves Parade Marshals – they had heard good news about the fun May Banquet which honored our 1915 Team – celebrating the team’s 100th Anniversary of their State Win and fun with our ‘rivals’ and refs!)
And we aren’t done yet! Work is being done on the upcoming Legacy Throwback Rival Basketball Game between Zionsville and WeBo (as a stand in for THS) on December 5th. This is an actually scheduled high school basketball game…at the Thorntown Elementary Gym in Thorntown on Mill Street (same location as the May Alumni Banquet.) JV game begins as 1 p.m. followed by the Varsity game. Western Boone A.D. is continuing planning the event.
In between the two games (just following the JV game) will be a special presentation and recognition(s) about Thorntown’s celebration and honoring of the 1915 IHSAA State Basketball Championship Team…the 100th anniversary recognition throughout this year. This recognition will specifically honor THORNTOWN THS basketball participants and supporting folks from 1915 to present!! This presentation is being planned by the WeBo A.D. Jason Mulligan and others. Right now there are plans for lots of Boone County basketball players (from any Boone County school), Coaches, A D’s, Cheerleaders, Team Managers and even Refs (Jimmy Dimitroff hopes to attend…he just LOVES Thorntown)will attend and be recognized during a second presentation.
Hope to see you there! Doors open at NOON (east, west and front entrances will be open.) Be sure to ‘sign in’ with folk who have clip boards so we know you are present. COME EARLY so you’ll have plenty of time to visit and get a good seat for the games. Please plan to attend the games and these special presentations…mark your calendar now to save the date of December 5, 2015. Thank you.
