Yesterday was mostly a basketball day for me.

Helped at the Hall of Fame in New Castle in the morning with a large group of 1st to 6th graders from Greenwood. Also showed the Clinton Central Boys team around before they played New Castle in the Fieldhouse.

Now taking in the opening night of the City League in Indianapolis at the Boner Fitness and Legacy Center on the campus of Tech High School.

The City League is an adult league for both Men and Women - but this isn't your typical adult rec league. There are several very high level players participating and recognizable names to any basketball fan here in Indiana.

The Women's game at 7 featured a Jay Goldz team with 2 former Indiana Miss Basketball's (Amber Harris and Stephanie Muvunga) along with 3 or 4 other Indiana All Stars. And they were in a tight matchup the entire game and came from behind to win.

Former pro and Ball State player Porchia Green played on the opposing team Law Office of Carmen Malone.

In the featured Men's game tonight, Abbiocco Pizzeria led by the Teague brothers Marquis and Jeff came back from down 20 to win over a Circle City Relief team with former IU player Robert Vaden on it.

In the last game, former Purdue player Sharika Webb was leading her Intend Indiana team to a big lead at halftime when I left.

The league games are played every Wednesday and Thursday from now until early August. Then there is a tournament at the end for a lot of cash - winner take all. They compete hard, believe me!

You can download the free app from your app store. Search "The City League" and download. It has all the schedules, rosters, and stats of all the teams.

The City League is more than just a basketball league. It has a community outreach component to it. You will notice many of the team names are things like Intend Indiana, Outreach Indiana, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Cancer Support Community, and Circle City Relief.

Admission is free - they do sell concessions. So if you want to see some pretty good basketball played by some very talented and well known players, take a look at the schedule in the app and plan an evening here.
