Our Howe coaching staff and a few of our players attended the IU Hoosiers Basketball workout this afternoon at the invitation of Head Coach Archie Miller and his IU Basketball coaching staff.
Howe was off school today, so the kids didn't miss any school.
I think it was a good eye opener for the players to see that it isn't just showing up for game night - that it is a lot of hard work away from the bright lights and adoring fans.
For us coaches, several new ideas for practice drills and an opportunity to talk to the coaching staff and make connections with them.
We plan to do this with Purdue's staff later this Fall too.
Our head coach, Kristof Kendrick's father is a former Major College Assistant Coach and that certainly doesn't hurt with making connections and getting neat opportunities like today. Frank went with us today and got to catch up with a few old friends from his coaching days.
Thanks to Coach Miller, Associate Head Coach Tom Ostrum, Assistant Coaches Ed Schilling (whom I've known for 25 years), Bruizer Flint, and Director of Player Development Derek Elston for their hospitality and taking the time to show us around the new Cook practice facility and their Locker Room/Lounge facilities.
The players were great too.
For my IU Basketball fan friends out there, be assured the Hoosiers are working VERY hard and there is a new energy around the program!
