I’m at the very beginning of a research topic: I am trying to identify how many times in Indiana high school girls’ basketball two players who have scored 2,000 career points have faced each other in a game.
I know that two previous occasions occurred December 28, 2012, when Columbus North (Ali Patberg) defeated Evansville Mater Dei (Maura Muensterman) in the championship game of that year’s HOF Classic and when Mater Dei had defeated Logansport (Whitney Jennings) in the HOF Classic semi-finals. Pending confirmation that the players were healthy and participated in the games it also appears that Brittany Rayburn (Attica) faced Brittany Schoen (South Central (E)) in the 2005-06 state tournament and Schoen faced Katy McIntosh (Austin) in the 2007-08 regular season.
To take it one step further, I’m trying to identify if there has ever been an instance when two players who have already surpassed 2,000 points have played against each other? On December 29 in this year’s HOF Classic, Princeton and Lebanon will face each other in a semi-final game, pitting Jackie Young against Kristen Spolyar, who have both already surpassed the 2,000 point mark (Young last season, Spolyar this past weekend).
Below is the list from the IHSAA of all-time 2,000 point scorers for girls and I’m going to start combing through previous schedules to see if any of these players would have faced each other… I thought I’d throw it out to you to see if you had memories of any such games that might save me a little bit of effort.
