This is simply a story that may end up being a wives-tale. I have heard about a game at Lafayette during the 1978-79 season where an unranked Lafayette Jeff team hosts and beats ranked New Castle, 70-68. Maybe 70-69..

Anyway, this is during that ridiculous streak where New Castle simply couldn't buy a win at Jeff.

The version I have heard had NC up and a Broncho plows into the lane for an off-balance shot, down by either one or two, as time expires. Shot misses.

Trojans think game is over, but in the bedlam, referee has called foul and awarded two FT's with no time left on clock.

Coach Sam Alford loses his shit, but this delay in getting player on the line also gives the referee time to remove all the New Castle fans that were under the basket. Jeff kid hits both, NC loses, and they also leave to find windows broken out of their bus for a long cold trip home.

True, False, or all of the above?

I have gone through microfiche and found a game during Feb of 1979 where Lafayette Jeff beat New Castle by FT's at the end of the game, but nothing was mentioned in the story about refs moving fans etc. Any insight here??
