Sad news out of Columbus today with the passing of Chuck Grimes, long time Columbus educator, journalist and coach. Chuck taught in the BCSC system for over 40 years and coached basketball at Southside elementary for a number of years and had a stint as JV boys coach at Columbus East. He was a long-time writer for the Columbus Republic and covered the sports beat almost forever (a 1964 Columbus High School graduate, I believe he worked for the Republic while still in high schoo). Just an all around great guy who had a real talent for spreading the good word about sports while keeping everything in perspective. Many will remember his father Paul Grimes, long time basketball referee who called numerous state finals. Chuck's passing will leave a real void in the Columbus sports scene.
