I'm very sad tonight. Charlie was one of my all time favorite basketball guys!
Greatest free throw shooter I ever saw or heard of! He would have bright eyed 12 year olds volunteer to "rebound" for him while he shot free throws and told stories to them after practice. Sometimes those shooting sessions might involve him MAKING over 200 free throws in succession.
Oh, and the kid NEVER had to touch the basketball as the perfectly shot ball had the rotation to gently return to him at the line, fifteen feet from the iron hoop.
He was one of those nice, fun guys to be around, and many a kid enjoyed his gentle coaching and it was always done with a smile.
Charlie was like my friend Tom Jacoby. Good guys who knew the game and how to expose the future generations of girls and boys to the joys of the game, thus developing a life long passion for the game of hoops.
Like Tom at Rossville, Charlie had as much to do with the overall success of a proud basketball program at Delphi as anyone!
I sure will miss strolling into a gym someplace and take a look in the corner of the bleachers, usually down low, and find Charlie sitting with his buddies, watching teenagers dribble, pass, and shoot.
And not a one of them could out shoot the Master - Charlie Harris!
RIP my friend! You will be missed dearly!
