Referee question...

If a player jumps and gets a rebound and on his way down, he loses his balance. He secures the ball in one hand and puts his other hand on the ground to get his balance. His feet did not move once he landed on the floor. Is this a travel? Referee called it a travel because his hand touched the ground. Never heard of that before.
