Since I have seen this called a variety of ways, I thought I would post this question on HH.
Player A1 is being closely guarded by B1. Official has a count going.
Player A1 drives to the basket, however, B1 remains with in the 6 feet required distance of the ballhandler.
I have seen AT LEAST the following called.
A) Official stops counting due to player A1 heading towards the basket.
B) Official change arms and starts a new count.
C) Official calls 5 seconds when the player is in the lane or on his way to the basket due to still being closely guarded.
What is the correct call, and why is it so hard to get it called consistently?
