I have tried to stay away from social media, it frustrates me, but I waded into the Purdue board as a friendly discussion about the game. My heart says IU, but my head says Purdue will win. Even explained why I thought IU might win.
You wouldn't believe what I was questioned about. That, to me, Purdue was NOT the main rival when I was growing up in southern Indiana in the 80s. UK was/is #1 because before the Internet and message boards, we watched regular TV and argued at school.
I knew 1 Purdue fan, an older gentleman I rarely spoke to. U of L and UK fans were everywhere on the river in the 80s, (still are) and if IU lost, I had to go to school and encounter all of them.
It wasn't until I was older that I found out Purdue was such a heated rival. I understand that now, but then and really now, for me, in Southern Indiana, it is UK.
I actually liked Purdue much more during this time because of the Indiana people involved, but now. I actually want them to lose because of their fans, kinda of like I am with the teams from the south.
I get it, I know. IU fans are bad, too. I have had my fill of them also, but I just found it interesting in all the things I wrote about, that was the thing they attacked.
BTW...I hope for a great game and that IU wins. I also hope that Purdue has a great year. We took our team up to their camp a couple of times and everyone there treated us very well.
