Ok I have been reffing for 20 years. Have never done higher than a JV game. I have also coached. In both scenarios I have either did this or heard other officials do it. Not all, but many. I even heard it at the IU rutgers game last year when I was fortunate enough to sit on the floor.
Is there a rule stating the referee will not count to five on the out of bounds? Or is it the officials discretion?
