This story happened in the past few weeks during soccer season that reminded me of the discussions about participation trophies and rewards for not winning. We attended a soccer game to watch a friend of the family play. Team A handily defeated Team B in a shutout. Team A totally dominated the game and played very well. Both teams were from the same county and therefore covered by the same newspaper. The game was one sided so most of the highlights in the newspaper went to the one sided winner. Later on the grandmother of the overmatched goal keeper was complaining that her grandson got no "credit" in the newspaper. My wife responded that the winning team usually has more positive press. I added that if they list his save total they should also list his goals allowed. I am thinking "credit" after a thumping is a little like a participation trophy.
