[Mark McFarland has always been on the lookout for a community that wraps its arms around its high school basketball team.
He found such a place nestled on the banks of the Ohio River after accepting the Madison (Indiana) High School head coaching job over the weekend.
McFarland, who twice led Rensselaer Central to 15 wins in a season and two sectional final appearances in three years, will be coaching his third team in seven years when he moves his family 199 miles southeast to Madison this week.
He replaces Cliff Hawkins, who coached at Madison for three seasons before taking the North Miami job this spring. Hawkins, who sits 10th in total wins among active coaches with 486 (486-326) over 36 seasons, won 33 games at Madison, including 7-17 this past winter.]
