["I'm going to draw ideas from all my former bosses," said Benge, who officially became a head coach for the first time Monday with his approval at the LaPorte school board meeting. "It's definitely going to be a challenge, but in my experiences as an assistant, I had a lot of responsibilities. The relationships I've built the last couple years, I look to build here at LaPorte."
The 31-year-old Benge succeeds Tom Wells, whose contract was not renewed last month.
"His background suits him well for LaPorte," athletic director Ed Gilliland said. "One thing that makes us happy is he's really excited to be here. He didn't apply for every job that opened up. (Former LaPorte coach) Joe (Otis) reminded me that he didn't have any experience when he came here. If Kyle follows a similar path and has similar results, we'll be very happy."]
