This had been brewing for a couple of years between Dayton Dunbar and the OHSAA stemming from a plan to throw a football game in order for another Dayton Public League school to get in via their computer based quailfying.
FOllowing a fight between Dunbar and Thurgood Marshall JV teams the OHSAA mandated involved players serve 2 game suspensions. FIght was reminiscent of a Lake County affair over here. Thurgood Marshall players all complied but Dunbar players did not. OHSAA called and sent emails to find out the story and got no response from school, coaches or admins. THey vacated the sectional win and inserted the team they beat ....Thurgood Marshall back into the sectional final. Dunbar's phones worked well enough to call a lawyer and today got an injunction vs OHSAA to play. Nice mess

It is a mess. OHSAA is not going to appeal. NAACP got involved along the way.
I have been a Dunbar fan since I was a grade school kid watching them play Richmond in the 60s but things have changed. When Muncie Central played them at Xavier team camp in 2004 Central had them down 30 points at half.Coach Peter Pullen pulled them off the floor at half and refused to finish the game . They went on to win the D2 (our 3a ) title with Dequan Cook on that team. Anthony Oden and Norris Cole teamed up in 08 for him but that has been a tempest in a teapot for a while. Speaking with mom who was a registered track and feild official brought up a wealth of stories that i had never heard before. I have attended quite a few Trotwood and Dunbar games held at UD Arena but i always sat where I could make an exit to a conveniently parked car with a direct path to the exits. Never have been shy about attending those games but have had plenty of "whatchu dune here white boy" thrown my way. It is a bit out of control. Too bad.
I am sure the OHSAA is not done with this though they took a lump today. Sometimes it is better to lose the battle ......to win a war.
