Question:
If the new rule is the same for both boys and girls basketball as far as dates go. The boys work from August 27 to the start of their season (Nov. 5) and girls go Aug. 27 to the start of their season (Oct. 15). I just think these dates for all are crazy.
I have been pondering this for a while and while I am not upset that boys get an extra three weeks (6 days). I thought this was put into place so kids had more time to be kids whereas I think it is actually worse.
My rationale is because when the summer rules were changed several years ago, there were those that said we are just going to do the same thing, but then you get administrators that say, why are you not doing what the other coaches in the area are doing. I feel it forces coaches to have these workouts. And now that a coach can put in offenses, defenses, etc. coaches are going to be more adamant whether it is allowed or not that their kids get there. In the past it was more one on one work, while it still can be, but who is not going to take advantage of working on sets etc. Will other sports start suffering?
