Hagerstown boys – Departing Coach Bobby Jones
Hagerstown, Ind. -- (Updated 3/14) Coach Bobby Jones resigned last night. The Tigers were 15-8 last season, and good Varsity Clubber reports big loss in senior Jalen Oliver. Two other contributing seniors also graduate. However, Varsity Clubber insists there are some really decent players on the returning roster. Not a lot of height by any means, but some solid athleticism for a few seasons. JV described as a little below average, but it is as expected given so many underclassmen dot varsity roster already. HS Math and Eled openings at this time. (Updated 6/10) Name reportedly headed to board. (Updated 6/28) Good Varsity Clubber reports Tigers tabled recommendation for new boys basketball coach at school board meeting 6/27. Rumor is top pick backed out after being offered job.
Cannelton boys – Departing Coach Michael Snyder
Cannelton, Ind. – (Updated 6/25) Good Varsity Clubber reports only two seniors leave and less than 7 points depart from a 6-19 squad. One was a real post presence at 6-5 though. A lot of role players do return, but most exciting is 6-2 jr-2-b Rafe Garrett. Garrett averaged over 16 a game as a varsity soph last year. Turnovers and ball handling were both struggles for last year\s young team, and Varsity Club member points to that being an issue again. No teaching positions known of at this time. Good news down the line, though, as both 7th and 8th grades went 12-5 last year. (Updated 6/28) Good Varsity Club member reports Will pair with HS Social Studies. Previous coach taking over as ast principal. Small community, good gym for size of school.
