I will not mention any names or schools, just area. There is a central Indiana 3A boys basketball team that had a boy enroll in a 2A school. He was a senior. On the transfer paper they said it was not sports motivated and he would not be playing basketball anyway. After further thought I guess he decided to play. The IHSAA did not grant eligibility. The family appealed and the IHSAA appeal panel to my understanding gave limited meaning he could not play varsity for 365 days from the last varsity game he played in. He would have been able to play varsity in the sectional, but not before. The parents got an attorney and the judge over-ruled the IHSAA and now he can play all year. It doesn't matter to the school either way and no one is going to make a deal about an average senior going from a 3A to a 2A, and the IHSAA isn't going to do anything further, but is this going to be the going trend? IHSAA should just let all transfers go regardless is the way this is heading.
