I got in a discussion with a gentleman on Twitter about having a shot clock in high school basketball, and I asked him how many high school games he had attended in the past few seasons where a team went into a stall. He defined a stall as holding the ball or running a weave for 90 or more seconds and making no attempt to score. He claimed to have attended more than 30 games in the last 4 years where this happened, and over 100 in the last 20 years (I don't know if this was in Indiana or not, but he was originally responding to an IndyStar tweet about the new mercy rule for Indiana high school basketball). That seemed rather high to me. I've attended 400+ games over the last 15 seasons and have only seen about 5 games where a team held the ball and maybe another 10 where a team ran an extended weave of over 90 seconds. I haven't seen many high school teams that I thought were capable of running a weave for 90 seconds without committing a turnover.
What has your experience been? Are you seeing more teams go into a stall than I am, or has it been rare in the games you have attended?
