I had to share what a special Saturday night we had at Loogootee HS. With Barr-Reeve in town and a packed house of over 4000 in Jack Butcher Arena, two very well coached teams played their hearts out and displayed tremendous sportsmanship throughout. Barr-Reeve's program is a machine that Coach Bryan Hughes has superbly built. Loogootee's program is in the infancy stages of being rebuilt by the strong leadership of Coach Kent Chezem. B-R is the better team and program for now but Loogootee has strong days ahead.
I was also reminded how cool it is to have great fans of Indiana high school basketball. In attendance tonight sitting together were "Norman Dale" (great Loogootee fan), "Greg A" and "Mac67" (easily over 150 years of fandom represented by these three gentleman). Greg A is closing in on seeing a game in every county in Indiana - amazing! As a former coach, I always appreciated the "old timers" who cared so much about this great game. Without the passionate fans, it wouldn't be the same. Thank you to the three of you for caring so much about Indiana high school basketball.
