We ended up with a total of nine players who submitted picks for this year's contest. We normally intend to hold it with a minimum of ten contestants, but we've decided to go ahead with only nine this season, recognizing that we're still living in unusual times. We thought it would be better to have the contest with fewer players than to miss two consecutive years.
Indianapolis Chatard was the most popular pick among our players in Week 1, but the Trojans found themselves on the wrong end of an upset as the Brebeuf Jesuit Braves defeated them for the first time in eight seasons. The Parke Heritage Wolves, beginning just their fourth season, generated the most points in this round with a 32 point victory over the Seeger Patriots. The Martinsville Artesians were right behind them, winning their Saturday game against the Bedford North Lawrence Stars by the score of 45-14. In addition to Chatard, Southridge and Westfield also suffered defeats this week, but none of our contestants picked them.
Ranger 20 sits alone atop our leaderboard by virtue of his Parke Heritage pick with 32 points, followed by ysuindy with 31. We have a tie for third with both hhsdawg and HickoryHusker having 13 points, with Nick Jenkinson completing the top five with 10 points.
Here are the games for Week 1 with scores, point margins, and the number of players who picked each one:
