Taylor boys – Legendary Indiana basketball Coach Basil Mawbey has announced he will not be returning to Taylor for a third season. The Titans went 24-24 during his two seasons there. Coach Mawbey owns a 685-277 career mark that includes three trips to the State Finals and two titles. AS far as the present Titans go, it’s an unusual story. No less than 9! seniors depart. 6-3 Darian Stone averaged double figures (14 PPG). Instead it was offense by committee for the most part last year. Good Varsity Club member reports Taylor generally scored in the mid-50’s, and a host of players combined their talents for those totals. The good news is, that in spite of huge graduation losses, there are still some key contributors that should return. 6-1 sr-2-b swing man Gavin Cox reportedly is most consistent scorer at 9 PPG. Point guard duties will likely fall to 5-10 sr-2-b Malin Vazquez. He added 8 PPG last go round and logged some time at PG last year. That’s about it, though, as far as proven Varsity experience. Varsity Clubber indicated Titans will be undersized with the exception of a little unproven height on JV. Only position open for certain is HS Spanish, but might be more.
