North Put boys - (Updated 3/24) This is an odd one for sure. For one thing when the school board met last week, the decision to not renew, the boys' coach, girls' coach, and AD, reportedly came as a surprise to superintendent and principal, as well as to those that have been directly impacted. Now, there is some word that a groundswell of pushback may in fact result in boys' Coach Collin McCartt being reinstated, however, both AD, and girls Coach look to be history. I'll hold off listing details of boys gig until dust settles and its future is determined.

North Put girls - (Updated 3/24) Are you kidding me? For starters, read boys' listing above. Beyond that, Coach Jim Spencer went 5-17 last season, and if that were the end of the resume, a misguided school board member could make a bad case for non-renewal. However, this is coach Spencer's second go round with NP. His first, 2001-2003 resulted in three Sectionals and two Regional titles. During those three seasons, Coach went 66-8. Somehow he forgot to coach? Hell, the North Put school board should consider themselves lucky to have a coach with his resume (which includes experience at the collegiate level) willing to lead a girls program that has really fallen on hard times talent-wise. The previous two seasons, the Cougars won four games each, so this year's 5 wins was somehow deemed fire-worthy? Approach with caution. Early B.E.S.T. frontrunner. Anyone want to move their family here and put your professional livelihood in the hands of this school board? Well, for those few that still have their hands raised, 15 girls return in the entire program, as six seniors depart. JV won single digit games, and little help is expected from 8th grade. Varsity Clubber reports 7th grade is competitive. However, Varsity Club member reports no shortage of 3 ppg players that feel entitled. Completely unrelated to hoops program(s) but maybe of merit in regards to painting a more accurate picture of school board… Same board recently refused to allow a LGTB club to form (only to allow it to form when they were threatened with a lawsuit that they had a 100% chance of losing).
