Rushville boys – Departing Coach Doug Laker

RUSHVILLE, Ind. – (Updated 3/18) Basketball gentleman and career Coach Doug Laker has announced his decision to retire from coaching after 31 years on the sideline. Rushville had a rough go of it last year, finishing just 1-20. Good news is that only one senior graduates, and srs-2-b front liners 6-7 Jack Laker and 6-4 Nash Paddack and 6-4 jr-2-b Dylan Thompson are on paper to be back and provide experienced post play. 5-10 soph-2-b Point Quinton Cain saw varsity time as a frosh in the backcourt. All that being said, Varsity Clubber sums it up this way: Lions should be more competitive next season, but likely won’t compete for any titles. Report goes on to state that JV and 8th grade were routinely blasted this past season. Another Varsity Club member contributes that there are openings in HS Science (would like to fill with life/physical combo) and HS English (would like to fill with someone that has publication exp) Mixed reports on internal candidate interest. Rushville member of 8-team Eastern Indiana Conference (Lawrenceburg, Batesville, Franklin Co, Connersville, South Dearborn, Greensburg, and East Central) 3A Sectional 29 is a virtual repeat of conference foes minus 4A East Central. Consensus is that the Lions are mired in a limited talent pool right now. New coach can be perfect combo of X/O genius and inspiring leader. May not be enough to get Rushville back on top for some time.
