Let me just say that Varsity Clubbers never cease to amaze me. Thanks for all the Laker info!!

Shakamak boys - (Updated 4/30) Coach Steve Brett has announced that he will be retiring at the end of this academic year after a career that few can match. The Lakers were 5-18 most recently. Good Varsity Club member reports much speculation regarding his JV coach could be considered a favorite among candidates. He has been there a long time. Another name being tosses about is Jered Rehmel , and still another indicates the rumor mill in Greene County points toward a sniff toward Ron McBride to see if he wants to take it. Another Varsity Clubber reports the Lakers lose 4 seniors: Dylan Collins, Jake Walters, Jeff Bessling and Michael Huddleston. The first 2 were their starting backcourt, and Bessling was their only real size. Two pretty good juniors to be return in Parker Green and Tanner Yeryar. Green has been the best player arguably in that class in the entire county basically his whole life, but as often happens, he has failed to grow much at the high school level as others have caught up to him physically. Both returnees come from very athletic families with success at Shakamak. They return 2 seniors also, but neither of them bring anything to the table at all. Shakamak has, in the opinion of this Varsity Clubber, a very strong JV coach in Brent Anderson, and there is the assumption that he would be Coach Brett's choice to replace him if he is given any say so in the matter. Another possibility is Jered Rehmel, who coaches girls basketball at Linton just 8 miles away. Returning to his alma mater surely has crossed his mind.. varsity Clubber reports he is part owner of a new sports bar in Linton along with Coach Joey Hart, so I think he may stay at Linton. … And additionally Ron McBride (ex coach and current AD) of Bloomfield may have the itch again Might make some sense if they want an experienced coach again. Still another name suggested as a possibility is someone in the Fougerousse family, since they seem to coach everything BUT boys basketball in Greene County someplace  However, the consensus smart money is on Brett Anderson. One Varsity Club member going as far as to say 80% sure.
