EV Reitz girls – Departing Coach Shane Holmes
(Updated 2/26) -- Can now confirm Coach Shane Holmes will not be returning for the Panthers next season. Reitz has gone 7-64 during the last three years including a rough go-round last year at 1-21. Aside from their lone victory over 2A South Spencer, Reitz was seldom in the game this season, losing regularly by 30+ ppg. From this outmanned roster, only 12 points depart in two seniors. However, this is a very large chunk of their 26 ppg their entire team managed. Good Varsity Club member indicates not a single player is expected back that dropped in even 6 a game last year. If there is any silver lining, it might be that many varsity minutes were logged by frosh and sophs, but reportedly not a lot of development during a season that saw the underclassmen routinely shell shocked by varsity level speed and physicality. Varsity Clubber states team might improve on its 20+ turnovers a game, but reaching 5 wins would be a very solid goal. Report also indicates HS SPED and ElEd openings already in place, and others will likely be so closer to end of school year. As one would expect, no help expected from JV.
