SB Riley boys – Departing Coach Mark Johnson
(Updated 3/15) – Coach Mark Johnson has said he will not be returning next season after a 33 year career and 420 wins. Coach Johnson was 227-127 during his 15 years at Riley and finished 19-3 last season. It’s hard not to dwell on what Coach has meant to South Bend basketball, but looking at what returns for new coach coming in.. Varsity Club member reports Wildcats should be very solid next year as they return the bulk of their scoring and rebounding. Ball handling will be the need as the only real senior loss comes in PG Maurice Scott. Scott was a rare true point at the high school level. 5-9 jr-2-b Jalen Jennings played some point last year but his 2 apg pale in comparison to Scott’s 7apg not to mention his leadership. If the backcourt can find some answers, the frontcourt is a Rolls Royce already. 6-7 sr-2-b Damezi Anderson is already a proven high level varsity player. He is expected back along with his 24 ppg and 8 reb. Fellow sr-2-b 6-5 Shamar Dillard joins him 12 ppg and 5 rpg. Varsity Clubber reports another sr-2-b 6-5 Rylen Grundy could round out one of the bigger and more athletic front lines around. JV is reportedly one of the better teams in the area. Frosh not so much.
