South Adams boys – Departing Coach Andy Brown

(Updated 3/30) – Now confirmed South Adams is open. Red flags waving here.. Good Varsity Club member reports Coach Brown had a three year stretch of success the past three seasons that was better than any since between 92-94. The 15 wins he had in 15-16 marked the most in 23 years. Three straight seasons of double digit wins is something that is very rare for SA basketball. Also, there was a 14-5 JV team and 18-2 8th grade team. Report goes on to state Coach Brown unfortunately was allegedly a victim of parents and players with too much of a voice. Reports of parents complaining about coaches in every sport for close to a decade and community and school allows it. Prospective coaches take note: There was also a twitter account created @FireCoachBrown1 where it was stated that he was "hated by the community." Lack of community support seemed to be a major downfall for Coach. Varsity Clubber accounts of many unproductive voices in players’ heads that didn't allow him to do his job. Not having facilities to practice in is always a concern and not having a paid VA is always a concern. When previous coach Ryan Biegel was let go, there were reports of people at the school board meeting upset because they felt parents were running the program through playing time concerns (story can be seen by googling SA board to replace coach Biegel.) Coach Brown was seen by many as a breath of fresh air and won like no one has in 23 years, but he could still not overcome the loud few. For new coach, community support is tough to come by and there will be 5-10 meetings per season with parents about playing time and there will be many social media complaints. Many parents who grossly over value their son's talent and ability. Tough place to win for nearly a quarter of a century, but coach Brown did an admirable job of doing just that. This community loves to hire and fire basketball coaches.
