Madison Shawe boys - (Updated 3/22) Coach Matt Traylor will not be returning to the Hilltopper sidelines next season. That's the nice way of putting it. Good Varsity Club member is a little more direct. Blindsided. After building a team that will finally be able to be competitive, rug was yanked. Coach went 26-63 during his four seasons there. Shawe finished 8-15 this past year. However, last year, Shawe was just 1-20 playing virtually all frosh and sophs. Two years later, those guys are poised to do something special. If that happens, it will be under new leadership. Shawe AD Steve Sims in a press release stated: "This has been a very difficult situation. We appreciate all of the hard work and commitment that Matt has shown throughout his four years as head coach." Hmmm. Interesting way of showing appreciation. Apparently commitment is only expected in one direction these days at Shawe - from Coach to school. Sr-2-b stud Dida Ikongshul and his 20 ppg lead three returning starters back next year for new coach. Good Varsity Club member also reports middle school teams are dynamite. On the bright side for departing Coach Traylor and perhaps next coach... Again from press release: "We wish Matt the best and hope he and his family continue to be very much a part of the Prince of Peace Catholic Schools community." How thoughtful to mention that Coach is still free to walk among them. Looks as though you will still be welcomed at church. So there is that. You know, no excommunication or restraining order with the termination of coaching contract. At least that part of the Shawe commitment is there for their coaches. Let there be no question. Win or prepare or be fired. So those with a family, think twice before relocating for this job.
