Randolph Southern boys - Departing Coach Travis Strangland
LYNN, Ind. -- (Updated 3/19) Can confirm that Coach Strangland has resigned to be closer to family. Last season’s Rebel team was 6-15, and good Varsity Clubber reports four seniors depart. As their record may indicate, none of those grads were blowing up the scoreboard, but their loss will still be felt. 2 were starters but both major contributors who rarely came off the floor. Also Jr to be Wyatt Saylor returns as does Sr to be Landon Saylor. Varsity Clubber continues that leading scorer and rebounder, 6-6 sr-2-b center Carter Abshear (14 ppg, 8 rpg) is expected back. Even with all those grads, Rebels did play several underclassman last season including some players logging valuable backcourt time. Diminutive srs-2-b Quintin and Quorbin McDavid are presumptive backcourt contributors. 6-1 jr-2-b Elijah Allen (8 ppg, 4 rpg) also among varsity vets likely to return. 8th grade described as hopeless by one Varsity Clubber. Lost one game 100-13. Tough to give up 100 points in a junior high game.. As for the feeder program and upcoming talent, good Varsity Club member states there is nothing and that is putting it nicely. The jv team did not win a game. Nor did the jr high team. Nor did the 5th or 6th grade. The worst part is none of those teams were ever in any contest. Declining enrollment won’t make it any easier in the future. Several reports how great the AD is to work for, as he is a former varsity girls coach and played D1 basketball. Now reportedly the super is a different story. Allegedly he wants to be very hands on and have his finger on anything and everything. From schedule changes to even playing time, he’s going to think he has a say. Boy coaching vacancies from 8th grade all the way down to 3rd. Varsity Club member reports HS Science Bio/Chem position for sure open.
