Owen Valley girls – Departing Coach Todd York
Updated 7/28 – Coach York apparently won’t be returning for a 6th season. Last year’s Patriots went 14-12, and a schedule thick with 1A and 2A squads should make for a consistent winner for the 3A OV. What makes this one even a little more interesting is that the Patriots were one of only a handful of varsity teams last year without a senior on the roster. Only 3 juniors to boot. The remainder of the squad was collection of pretty talented frosh and sophs who spread their 45 ppg around pretty well – Only one girl (frosh) averaged double figures with 11. On the down side, turnovers were plentiful, as can be expected with playing so many younger players. Perhaps more troubling are Varsity Club reports that indicate parent issues last season. If those hold true, none of that graduates obviously. Reportedly Coach York was a lay and recently changed full-time jobs. Varsity Clubber indicates OV is loaded with great young talent. Intriguing one for sure. HS English, Math, and AG all currently open.
