New Castle girls – Departing Coach
New Castle, Ind. – (Updated 3/1) Coach Brandon Bradley has decided not to return to New Castle. After graduating three starters from last year's team, the Class 3A Lady Trojans were 10-14 this year on a schedule that included 15 Class 4A opponents, one of those being 4A State Champ Warren Central. The Lady Trojans graduate three forwards who combined for just 12 points and 11 rebounds, but they do return Junior All-Star Cameron Tabor, who led them in every statistical category, including a 23.1 scoring average. Beyond that, there are three other girls who each started multiple games, but none averaged more than six points. There is no one else with significant Varsity experience. As for help, the JV team won eight or nine games, and the 8th Grade team was just .500 and has a handful of kids who could help down the road. A Varsity Clubber reports that there were only 15 girls on the high school roster, and one obstacle of recent years are the local travel volleyball teams and their promotion of year-round volleyball. There are a few girls 6-feet or taller on the volleyball team, one 6-4, who have never played basketball, but the Varsity hoops team played no one over 5-9.
