Morton girls - Departing Coach Alana Anderson
HAMMOND, Ind. -- (Updated 4/22) Coach Anderson’s only season with the Governors ended with a 5-14 record. Three seniors from last year’s roster are out the door, and much of the Governor’s offense-by-committee. Varsity Club member reports sr-2-b Vanessa Carrera is expected back, but she and the other underclassmen returnees will have to have a lot of growth to reach last year’s win total. No one could be counted on to hit double figures on a consistent basis last go round. 5-11 jr-2-b Layla Macon, while largely unproven, should provide some size inside. Quality guard play is a true area of need. JV was terrible last season. The tiny Great Lakes Conference includes Gary West, East Chicago, and Hammond. Varsity Club member reports Jenelle Fazekas as a slam dunk name if she wants it. She served as Morton asst last season and has been with coaching staffs at Gavit and Indiana University Northwest. In the chance the job goes elsewhere, openings include several Eled, HS PE, HS SS, MS SS, Spanish, and MS Math. Several more expected.
